Why do Hong Kong students want to Occupy Central?

These are the reasons why I think students want democracy:

 (a) Real income has been in steady decline since 1997.

 (b) Hong Kong has one of the longest working hours among the developed countries/economies.

 (c) Home prices have tripled since 2003. It takes an average graduate about 10 to 15 years to save enough money for the deposit just to buy a shoe-box apartment, assuming they do not eat for that 10- to 15-year period.

(d) The rental level is also one of the world highest.

 (e) Hong Kong has the highest population density in the world yet the Hong Kong government wants more people from China (rich or poor) to come and live here. Currently, Hong Kong has a population of 7.2 million, and the government hopes to raise it to 10 million.

 (f) Hong Kong is ranked no. 1 in Crony Capitalism index. The Communist Party and the local tycoons do not want to change the status quo.

 (g) Most young people are not able to move to other cities because they can't conduct a simple conversation in English or Mandarin. They are trapped in Hong Kong.

 (h) According the data published in 2010 by the Hospital Authority, 1 to 1.8 million people in Hong Kong has mental or psychological problems. Sadly, the overwhelming vast majority of these will not seek any treatment.

In short, Hong Kong is hell on earth for most young people.
